Convenience
A built in microwave oven combo can free up space on kitchen counters and provide a modern look to your space. It can be used to cook leftovers, frozen food, and even pre-packaged food items. It can also eliminate the need for an additional countertop appliance or a large wall ovens that are stand-alone. If you are looking to upgrade your home without having to undertake major renovations, a combination microwave oven is a great option.
There are microwave ovens that come in a variety of styles to match your kitchen decor. Some have a right-to-left swing-out door, whereas others feature a drop-down style that opens in the same manner as a traditional oven. You can also purchase microwave ovens that open in a drawer, similar to a cabinet. Microwave drawers are simple to reach and are perfect for small spaces where you want to minimize the use of counter space.
Combination microwaves can also offer various features to help make meal prep easier and more convenient. Some models have sensors that allow you to steam your food. This feature adjusts the temperature and time of your food in order to ensure you get perfectly steamed vegetables and fish. Other features include a broil element that lets you quickly melt cheese or brown your favorite dish, as well as Crispwave(tm) technology that lets you grill, bake and crisp foods.
When choosing a microwave oven combination, you should consider how often you'll use each function. If you'll be using the oven part of your combination more often than the microwave, you might be better off using an oven with two walls instead. It's also important to note that a combo oven typically has less capacity than a conventional standalone oven.
When you've chosen a microwave and oven combo to meet your needs, consider the installation process. Over-the-range models are mounted over your stove or cooktop and plug into an electrical outlet, while built-in microwaves are inserted directly into cabinets or walls of your kitchen. Some models even have trim kits that let you effortlessly match your new microwave with your existing kitchen cabinets.
Energy Efficiency
A built in microwave oven combo can provide an ideal space-saving solution for those who have smaller kitchens, regardless of whether they reside in a house or apartment. They can save the space in cabinets that would be taken up by two separate appliances and they also can help reduce energy usage. They are more energy efficient than traditional wall ovens and offer an efficient method to cook. They can also be used to cook both warm and hot dishes, which reduces the necessity for additional appliances, such as toasters or warming plates.
DOE conducts various analyses when evaluating potential amendments to energy conservation standards. These include market and technology assessments, screening analyses, engineering analyses and a national impact analysis (NIA). For this SNOPR, DOE will rely on its existing engineering analysis of microwave ovens to determine the maximum efficiency improvements that are technologically feasible for this product category.
DOE will evaluate the microwave's design to a set energy performance objectives in the engineering analysis. The engineering analysis will then determine the maximum improvement in energy efficiency that is technologically feasible based on the most advanced microprocessor-controlled model available on the market or in working prototypes, or the maximum reduction in energy consumption that is technically achievable with the current technologies available for this product class.

As part of NIA, DOE will assess the impacts on consumers, including the lifecycle cost savings, and simple payback time (PBP). DOE will utilize its Government Regulatory Impact Model with an adaptation for microwave ovens to calculate industry net present value ("NPV").
microwave and oven integrated Ovens & Hobs will also evaluate the effects on manufacturers and will use a modified industry cash flow model that is specifically tailored to this type of product in order to estimate manufacturing NPV. In addition, DOE will consider the potential impact on small business manufacturers and other subgroups of manufacturers to identify any that could be disproportionally affected by these proposals.
DOE will also examine whether the test procedure for microwave ovens needs to be updated in order to include active mode power consumption as well as an integrated energy use metric. Currently, test procedures only cover standby mode power consumption.
Design
Wall ovens rely on the circulating of hot air while microwaves rely on waves to cause the water molecules in food to vibrate and generate heat. Combination wall ovens combine these two different appliances into a single unit that can be used to save kitchen space and provides a sleek, modern aesthetic. You must carefully take into consideration your budget and goals before deciding on a combination wall oven. Some of the combo ovens we evaluated have design or performance issues.
